Course Overview
This linguistics course introduces students to the basic concepts and tools of analysis used in linguistics and applied linguistics.
You can select individual units to build a qualification that suits you. Study for either: Graduate Certificate in Linguistics; Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics; or Postgraduate Diploma or Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics. Students can decide which certificate they would like to work towards as they proceed through their studies.
What You Will Learn with the Master of Arts (Applied Linguistics)
Students are encouraged to develop a critical perspective on language issues and problems relevant to society. The course focuses on language policy and planning, looking at the functions and status of entire languages as well as the nature of language-internal issues e.g. standardisation; education; business and the media; training students in the more specific applications of linguistic insights.
