The Graduate Certificate in Counselling Skills is ideal for those who want to participate in a counselling program that focuses on both personal and professional development. It is an appropriate qualification if you want to gain counselling skills applicable within a wide variety of contexts and circumstances, but do not necessarily wish to work as a professional counsellor. Through this postgraduate counselling course, you'll develop competence and confidence in interpersonal communication and counselling. Upon completion, you can work in health, community services, education and organisational settings. The course includes 140 hours of supervised work placement, where you can put theory into practice and gain valuable work experience. Delivered by the Australian College of Applied Psychology (ACAP), this course focuses on experiential learning, so you emerge job ready with skills you can apply immediately. Please note that this course is only available in Melbourne. If you are studying in Sydney, Brisbane or by distance education, a similar qualification, the Graduate Certificate of Counselling, is available as an exit qualification within the Graduate Diploma of Counselling course. Practical Assessments, Not ExamsThere are no exams for this counselling course. As ACAP values experiential learning, the College uses assessments to determine if learning outcomes have been achieved. ACAP's assessments combine both theory and practice, and can take the form of interviews, videotaped role-plays, self-critiques, essays, journals, projects and presentations.
