What's it like to be a Web Designer?
A Web Designer designs and develops website content. They aim to create websites that are easy to use and navigate. They can play a role in the development of text, pictures, animation, sound, colours, layout and data. Web Designers create web content on computers using programming code, and utilise a mixture of creative thought and technical processes to fulfil their design briefs. They may work as freelancers or within teams in many industries with a digital footprint.
Tasks and duties
- Planning a work schedule and budget for design creation and production.
- Preparing sketches, diagrams, illustrations and layouts to communicate design concepts.
- Using a variety of software to produce user-friendly designs.
- Writing and modifying programming code.
- Updating designs to fulfil a brief and client requests.
- Pitching ideas to clients and team members.

It is possible to work as a Web Designer without formal qualifications, however many employers prefer individuals to have qualifications in the field. Around half of workers have a university degree.
- 1.Complete a qualification in Web Design. This may be a Certificate IV in Information Technology (Web Development) (ICT40120) or Certificate IV in Information Technology (ICT40120), Diploma of Information Technology (ICT50220) or Bachelor degree majoring in Web Design.
